Goals & Statistics

Writingale tracks two kinds of targets: a book-wide goal and per-chapter goals — plus a writing history that records how much you actually wrote each day.

The book goal

Set your goal in Book → Book Settings…: a target count (words or characters), how strict it is, and an optional deadline.

• At least is the classic novel target — 60,000 words by December.
• At most fits short-form limits — a competition cap, a query letter.
• About is a soft aim.

Only the manuscript itself counts — aside material and notes never inflate your progress.

The goal ring

The ring in the sidebar header fills as you approach the target. Click it for the goal popover:

• Goal — current count, target, and deadline.
• History — words written this session, daily average, daily best, this week's total, and a bar chart of the last seven days.

Per-chapter goals

Any chapter (or scene, or part) can carry its own word target — set it in the inspector's Writing Goal field. The list column shows live progress right under the chapter's name (363 / 1500 words), independent of the book-wide goal.

How history is recorded

Writing statistics are stored privately inside the book folder, per book. The history only ever grows: deleting a paragraph doesn't erase the fact that you wrote it — your "words today" reflect the work you did, not just the words that survived.
